“After Murillo” Holy Family (The Seville Virgin) - Antique Grand Tour Devotional Oil on Board

Antique oil painting depicting the Holy Family, after Bartolomé Esteban Murillo’s celebrated composition “The Holy Family (The Seville Virgin),” the original of which resides in the Louvre, Paris. This is a 19th-century copyist’s version - the kind of small devotional souvenir popularly commissioned by Grand Tour travelers passing through Spain and Italy, where Murillo’s religious works were among the most widely reproduced of the era.

The scene shows the Virgin Mary and Christ Child seated with St. Elizabeth and the young St. John the Baptist and his lamb, with God the Father and cherubim rendered above in soft, glowing clouds - classic Baroque devotional staging in a warm, muted palette with tender sfumato modeling typical of the Murillo school.
