Antique watercolour and gouache composition housed in an ornate frame, titled “Rouen, Normandy” lower left and signed lower right. A bustling old street scene in Rouen is seen here, viewed down a narrow market square framed by tall, medieval buildings on both sides. The architecture is full of character—overhanging upper stories, steep roofs, carved façades, and shopfronts tucked into shadow.
In the center, a finely detailed Gothic monument rises like lacework, and behind it a huge cathedral tower looms softly through mist, giving the whole scene a hazy, atmospheric depth. The palette is gentle and aged.. At street level, small figures in period dress gather around market stalls under pale canvas awnings. Charming!
