Figures with Umbrella, Oil on Canvas by Dragan Shex

Atmospheric original oil painting by Dragan Sekaric Shex (1957–2024), signed lower right, a Bosnian-born Canadian artist known for his dreamlike figurative compositions and distinctive sfumato technique.

The painting depicts three softly rendered figures emerging from a pale, mist-filled ground. A brilliant orange and yellow umbrella hovers above the larger turquoise-blue figure, balanced by two smaller figures in warm orange and violet. Forms dissolve gently into their surroundings.

Trained as an architect in Sarajevo, Shex later studied the sfumato technique in Italy before settling in Toronto. His figurative paintings frequently feature anonymous figures, umbrellas and embracing couples, using blurred contours and saturated colour to explore themes of protection, intimacy and human connection.
