“Moon Gate, Qingyuan Village”, Oil on Canvas Plein-Air Study

$225.00

A vivid, heavily impastoed field study of Qingyuan, an ancient Huizhou-style village tucked in the mountains of Wuyuan County, Jiangxi - long famous among Chinese landscape painters as a favored open-air painting destination for its unspoiled Ming- and Qing-era architecture. Signed lower right, inscribed and dated verso, the composition centers on a whitewashed moon-gate bridge spanning the village stream, with the characteristic black-tile, white-walled gable houses receding toward hazy blue mountains beyond.

Painted directly from the motif, the canvas shows the immediacy and confident, thick brushwork typical of Chinese academy-trained plein-air practice - built on a Western Impressionist-derived approach to light and color while depicting an unmistakably Chinese architectural subject.
