Watercolour Painting of Winter Sleigh Ride
Wonderful watercolour landscape on paper, framed under anti glare glass, signed lower right, it captures a quiet winter sleigh ride through a snowy woodland. A small red sleigh, drawn by a grey horse, carries a group of bundled-up figures along a pale blue-shadowed path. The bright sleigh becomes the warm focal point against the soft whites and creams of the snow.
The surrounding forest is loosely but sensitively rendered: dark evergreens frame the scene on the left and right, while tall, slender bare trunks rise in the distance. The artist uses washes of teal, green, ochre, and soft peach to suggest both cold air and low winter light. The snow is not pure white but filled with faint blues, yellows, and lavender-grey shadows, giving the landscape a gentle glow.
There is a nostalgic, storybook quality to the composition. The figures are small within the broad winter setting, which makes the scene feel like peaceful and rural Quebec.
N.B. Some sporting and wear to the frame consistently with age, price reflects.
